It is a good sign when on the first weekend a film is out fans are already scrutinizing footage and looking for information about how it was put together, and trying to figure out if there are any extra pieces to the puzzle out there that they can view. Fortunately for us all, one man in particular was so enamored by ‘Rogue One‘ (and I do not blame him as I too loved the movie) that he took the time to comb through the teaser, the trailers, and all of the promos he could find for ‘Rogue One’ and discover 46 shots used in the marketing campaign that did not actually make the final cut of the film.
But viagra tablets in india how do you know if an ED is causing anxiety? The man’s name is Vashi Nedomansky, and on his website he points out that these missing shots did not detract from the movie experience at all, and worked very well in getting him and fans in general excited to go see ‘Rogue One,’ but he just found it interesting to see how much footage they actually had for the movie and how much they ended up not using. Personally, I love the idea of a marketing campaign using a lot of footage that is not actually in the movie, as it helps keep things fresh when you actually sit down in the theater and helps solve the age old problem of movie trailers giving away too much of the movie. If they are using footage that never actually makes it in, the trailer becomes more about the tone of the film and the potential for what the film could be rather than a glimpse of the plot and spoilers for what is to come.

Check out the video of the all the cut shots for yourself and then share your opinion on using footage not featured in the movie in a marketing campaign in the comments section below!

On 6 August 1996, HarperCollins published a book it expected to sell around 5,000 copies in hardback. A tour in the US to mark publication of the novel, A Game of Thrones, saw “modest” turnouts of readers, admits its author George RR Martin. At one stop-off, in St Louis, that number fell to zero.

“I actually drove four patrons out of the bookshop, allowing me to set my all-time ‘bad signing’ record at minus four,” Martin reminisces on his blog. Sales back in 1996 “were … well, OK. Solid. But nothing spectacular. No bestseller lists, certainly.”

Twenty years on, Martin has sold more than 70m copies of his A Song of Ice and Fire novels around the world. But Jane Johnson, Martin’s publisher at HarperCollins in the UK, says that while the first chapters of A Game of Thrones “blew me away” when she was asked to read them in 1993 by her boss. “The writing was sharp and witty and immediate; the range of characters – all full of life – was breathtaking, the world-building impressive, with all the dirty, gritty details that made you feel you were reading well-researched historical fiction rather than a made-up fantasy world. But most of all was that intoxicating tangle of sex and power.” Johnson “knew we had to have it”, but predictions for sales were not, at first, particularly high.

Franchise returns to the big screen this week with action director at helm

Here’s what’s on the radar screen in TV, music and film for the coming week.

Scotty (Simon Pegg), left, Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) and Kirk (Chris Pine) really do go where no one has gone before in Star Trek Beyond.

MOVIES Big release on July 22: Star Trek Beyond

Big picture: After two reboot films in which the crew barely made it out of Earth’s orbit, Beyond could easily be a spa day on Pluto. But Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) and company finally go “where no man has gone before” in their third cinematic voyage: uncharted space. A few standard Trek plot lines ensue: a rescue mission gone wrong, “millions of lives” at stake, and yet another Enterprise crashing or blowing up.

Instead of a vengeful, superhuman villain named Khan, this film offers a vengeful, super-alien villain named Krall (Idris Elba). As he warns Kirk, “This is where the frontier pushes back.” It’s also where the final frontier gets Fast & Furious. Justin Lin, a man largely famous for directing Vin Diesel and exploding cars, directs this franchise outing. On the plus side, it’s co-written by Simon Pegg (who knew Scotty had the time to be an engineer and a screenwriter!?)

Forecast: My prediction? This film will lead to all-new James Bond casting rumours that Elba will play Bond … in his Krall makeup. Imagine an intergalactic spy with a licence to kill (with William Shatner as the new M)! Meanwhile, Star Trek Beyond will be a fitting tribute to the late actor Anton Yelchin, who returns as Chekov.

Some Trailers and stuff

  1.  Dr Okun’s back
  2.  Westworld teaser
  3. New theme music for Ghostbusters
  4. Final Star Trek Beyond Trailer

  1. HE’S BAAACK. ScienceFiction.com explains how Dr. Okun’s been down for the count almost as long as Captain America – “Okun’s Razor: New ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Featurette Explains The Return Of Dr. Okum”.

Of course, the alien attacked the doctor and took over his mind, using him to communicate with the other people outside the laboratory, and the encounter ended with men having to shoot the alien before it hurt the president, all of which left Dr. Okun comatose on the floor.

According to the new featurette released, Dr. Okun did not actually die that day. Apparently he was just left in a vegetative state, a coma, for the past twenty years, leaving him prime to be woken up by contact with new alien minds as the aliens return in the new film.

2) WESTWORLD TEASER TRAILER. Westworld is coming to HBO in October 2016.

3)  Yahoo! Movies describes the Ghostbusters theme remake.

Paul Feig’s reboot of Ghostbusters gives everything a full redo — including, it turns out, the classic, catchy, campy theme song by Ray Parker Jr. The theme song as revamped by Fall Out Boy with Missy Elliott, released this morning (hear it above), abandons the bright pop past in favor of a darker guitar-heavy dose of alternative/mid-2000s emo angst. Be prepared to hear this song in various Hot Topics for the next couple of weeks/months/years.

Not that my opinion counts for much, but I HATE IT ! Have a listen, what do you think?

4) Final Star Trek Beyond Trailer

Star Trek Beyond is coming to theatres July 22.

Back in May, Abrams made comments that led fans to believe the case had been dropped, but  in fact, litigation continues. The Axamonitor site ran an in-depth analysis of the studios’ latest filing with the court.

In spite of this, Axanar is still blissfully going ahead. The following is an excerpt from the article on Space.com: http://www.space.com/33259-star-trek-axanar-trailer-released-amid-lawsuit.html

This is the SECOND of THREE exclusive teaser trailers for AXANAR, concentrating on the Klingon side of the conflict. Richard Hatch, in character as the Klingon Warlord “Kharn the Undying,” provides the voice over.

Director Robert Meyer Burnett created this trailer from visual effects and voice-overs produced in December before the lawsuit was filed. He declined to answer legal questions about the production but said he hopes the story can move forward soon.

After the fan-made production raised $600,000 on Kickstarter and was planned to be released in 2016, production was halted after CBS and Paramount Pictures filed suit in California in December 2015. The suit alleges that the production violates several “Star Trek” copyrights, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans are allowed to make their own “Star Trek” fan art and fan fiction, as long as those works follow guidelines set by CBS and Paramount Pictures. The companies recently announced a new list of “Guidelines for Avoiding Objections.” The list includes an introductory paragraph which states: “CBS and Paramount Pictures are big believers in reasonable fan fiction and fan creativity, and, in particular, want amateur fan filmmakers to showcase their passion for Star Trek.”

“We are continuing settlement talks, and the discovery process is well underway,” Erin Ranahan, a Winston & Strawn attorney representing filmmaker Axanar Productions, wrote in an email to Space.com. “We hope that the lawsuit will be resolved before the need to file any further motions with the court.”

STOP MOTION DINOSAURS

The Alex Film Society will show The Lost World (1925) on Sunday, July 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA.

The Lost World posterWhen Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was not writing Sherlock Holmes stories, he often wrote history, fantasy, adventure and science-fiction tales. One of his most successful novels was The Lost World, the story of adventurers who find a South American plateau – where time stopped 65 million years ago – inhabited by dinosaurs.

In 1912, when the book was published, movies were still in their infancy and technology wasn’t available to do the fantastic story justice, but by 1925, Willis O’Brien had begun to perfect stop motion, a form of animation that would allow him and his small team to bring these long dead creatures to life, blending them convincingly with real actors. It created a sensation when people saw, for the first time, believable prehistoric creatures on the screen, and remains a cinematic milestone today.
