We Meet Today, Sat Nov 13, 13:00h

Apparently the zoom invite was caught in some spam filters.
It will appear again in our first posting of the meeting, here, at 13:00h.

On the agenda

1) The Hero’s Journey, Mythology, (Fairy Tales), Fantastical Rockwell, & The Land of Enchantment: Part 2 of the tour of “Enchanted” an exhibition of fantasy art at the Norman Rockwell Museum.

2) Rube Goldberg Machines and the Fight Against the Nazis:  You must be very good before you can be very bad – the first rule of parody. That applies to writing comedy, or to designing ridiculous inventions.

Most people know the name of Rube Goldberg (1883 – 1970). He is best known for his cartoons showing improbable inventions, carrying out the simplest tasks in the most complicated fashion. Most people don’t know that he had his contemporary peers such W. Heath Robinson in Britain, and modern-day followers and acolytes. The annual Rube Goldberg competition organized by Perdue University lets engineering students show just how bad they can be, by building ridiculously complex devices – that still must deliver the end result,, many steps.

There are discount generic viagra http://amerikabulteni.com/2011/07/19/new-yorku-escinsel-dugun-telasi-sardi/ many different types of infertility drugs available on the internet. The main concern of majority of the sildenafil purchase click that drugshop people before employing any sex pills. And what exactly did Rube Goldberg machines have to do with the war against Hitler? You’ll have to watch the presentation to find out.

3) Audio Game: How well do you know your SF/F film and television? “The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently.” Can you identify the sci-fi movie character who spoke those words? Or the actor who played him? In which movie were these lines spoken?

This afternoon, we’ll be playing audio snippets of quotations, catch-phrases, and sequences of dialogue, all from SF/F films or television series, and challenging players to identify the character speaking the words. And the actor playing that character! And the movie or TV show in which the lines were spoken!

How well do you know your SF/F film and television? Let’s test your knowledge, shall we…

Oh, and that was Grand Moff Tarkin speaking just now, played by the late, great Peter Cushing in Star Wars: A New Hope.
