Ah, the beach! Yet another activity we do not get to enjoy for long during our fleeting Summers. One of my favourite things to do there has always been building elaborate sand castles.
There are places that make an industry of such hobbies, with imported sand and giant contests. You can see all sorts of creations at those events, but I think I can state with little fear of being proven wrong that your tastes run towards the… …unusual, right?
The details and workmanship on some of these creations are mindboggling. They are amazing. You have to wonder how do the sculptors prevent them from drying out and falling apart considering the amount of time it must take to finish a project.
Some of those contests are held indoor or under special tents, which help them keep their structure for longer. The sand they use tends to be very fine, which greatly helps when it comes to detailing. The pros have all sorts of techniques, like using misters for moisturizing the sand.
Sadly, breaking rocks in the back yard does not qualify as a beach activity.
