Zine to share!

Nic Farey has sent us This Here.

TH 65

The ish opens with an interesting article about the settlement movement, a friend he shared a settlement flat with  and a terrible murder that occurred near there which remains unsolved.

Nic has been diagnosed with a form of leukemia. There is a reasonably effective treatment, he says, but we’ll keep him in our thoughts through what must be a difficult time.

Zine and FAAn Award news

From Nic Farey, This Here 62

TH 62

The Faniverse in general, and I believe the fanzine bit of it in
particular, does have a common spirit which is shared at
some level, as much as individual expressions of it may
differ wildly. The spirit of the FAAns smells like, what, inky
fingers? Weed? Strong Drink ((c) L Huntzinger)? Snark?
Desperation? Perhaps all of the above, yet I contend that it
behooves the disparate members to have at it and participate
in what’s still fanzine fandom’s only dedicated awards…

“In my experience by the time they find out that you know nothing about it, you know something about it.”

Five hours in line for a Covid test, only to be told they had closed for the day? The photo of all the cars lined up on the highway for as far as forever is shocking. Mostly, though, I go looking for the footy stories.

From the N3F,Massachusetts,  three zines:

POLL!

In the last National Fantasy Fan, a correspondent proposed that we should have separate Neffys for books from commercial publishers and books from independent publishers (your President, for example). It might be proposed that this division would be read as meaning that books from one of those sources is inferior to books from the other of those sources. It might be proposed that multiplying the number of Neffys may or may not be a good thing.

Also, you may think that there are Neffy awards we should add or delete.

From Nic Farey:

“For better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”

Nic Farey’s This Here

TH 45

Fanizine from Nic Farey–great column for footy (soccer) fans, beautiful water colour illos, interesting LoC.

How does one define “fanzine”? It used to be obvious, but then the Internet came along… A good read!

From Nic Farey, This Here  TH 41

There is a lot about the FAAn Awards, some lovely art work, and an incendiary article by David Hodson regarding the ESL in which he explodes the myth of football being created by the poor and bought by the rich.
